Our school participated in the nationwide Maths Week Ireland 2014. The idea was to promote a positive attitude towards maths and to increase motivation among our students.

We encouraged our students to use their “Maths Eyes” to see maths in their surroundings. All the students from Junior Infants right to Junior Cycle level participated. We looked at the strand ‘Shape & Space’   We explored  shape in our school environment e.g classroom, corridors and the school car park…

We looked lines, angles, symmetry. We completed a maths trail around the school. We took lots of photographs and recorded our findings in a powerpoint presentation.

The senior group also completed a quiz on their findings. They also completed a number of problem solving activities : “ Guess how many balls in the ballpool?

We discovered that Maths is really FUN!
